I think that my favorite books were The Green Glass Sea and The Invention of Hugo Cabret.
I think that I really learned a lot of history from The Green Glass Sea. I even wrote to the author and she was kind enough to write back and answer my questions.
The Invention of Hugo Cabret was just a good, but really long, story. It made you route for the underdog. You wanted this boy to finish his invention.
I would definitely recommend any of these books but the two I've briefly mentioned were my favorites.
